When Jesus was praying before his betrayal on the Mount of Olives he sweated great drops of blood Luke 22:44 to symbolize the blood of the covenant fro forgiveness. Jesus seems to have been praying for the forgiveness of Judas and the Jewish Leaders knowing that he was about to be crucified. In Matthew 5:44 Jesus said, “...pray for those who persecute you...”. The great drops of blood seem to symbolize the the new covenant in Jesus blood. (Luke 22:20)
Isaiah 53:12 “Therefore I will allot him a portion
with the great,
and he will divide the plunder
with the strong,
because he poured out his soul
to death ,
and he was numbered
with the transgressors,
and he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession
for the transgressors.”
Isaiah 53:12 says that Jesus, “...made intercession for the transgressors...”.
James 4:8 “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts , you double-minded .”
Matthew 26:31 says that the Shepherd will be there presumably when Jesus prays before his arrest. The shepherd symbolizes the representative presence of God himself.
Psalms 34:18 “The LORD is near those
who are of a broken heart,
and saves those who are crushed
in spirit.”
The Lord the Shepherd was drawing near to Christ as he was praying before his arrest on the Mount of Olives.
